Summary

[edit]
Description A two-place Curtiss F8C-4 from VF-1 misidentified as a single-place U.S. Navy Naval Aircraft Factory TS-1 from Fighting Squadron VF-1 in flight. VF-1 operated TS-1s with wheels from the aircraft carrier USS Langley (CV-1) and float-equipped TS-1s from battleships in 1925-26.
The TS-1 was the first U.S. Navy carrier-based plane specifically designed for this purpose. Its designation "TS" stood for "turret scout", as it was originally planned to operate it from platforms on gun turrets of battleships. Although designed by the Bureau of Aeronautics, only five were built by the NAF, a contract for 34 TS-1s was awarded to Curtiss.
