Description

Nîmes (Gard) - Musée des Beaux-Arts - Mosaïque romaine. . Cette mosaïque romaine datant de la seconde moitié du IIe siècle est certainement la plus grande et la plus belle parmi celles trouvées à Nîmes. Elle a été découverte lors de la construction des halles de la ville en 1883 dans un état de conservation remarquable car elle était enfouie à 1,80 m sous terre. Ses dimensions sont exceptionnelles : 8,80 m de long sur 5,94 m de large.. . Le panneau central représente une scène de la mythologie grecque où Admète, roi des Phères, demande à Pélias, roi d'Iolcos, la main de sa fille Alceste.. Pour la suite des explications voir :.
