Description
Français : Nîmes (Gard, Languedoc, France), dans le quartier historique de l’Écusson, quelques façades de la rue de La Madeleine. Au numéro 30, cette porte assez majestueuse est l'unique vestige du premier Grand Temple de Nîmes ou temple de la Calade (l'entrée principale ouvrait sur cette rue perpendiculaire à la rue de La Madeleine) construit en 1565 et rasé sur ordre de Louis XIV en 1685 après la Révocation de l’Édit de Nantes. Cette porte était une entrée secondaire sur la façade méridionale du temple. Sur le cartouche au-dessus du fronton brisé une inscription, buchée à la Révolution, proclamait : « C'est ici la Maison de Dieu, c'est ici la Porte des Cieux ».
English: Nîmes (Gard, Languedoc, France), in the historic district of Ecusson, some facades of the Madeleine street. At number 30 this rather majestic door is the only vestige of the first Great Temple of Nîmes or Temple of the Calade (the main entrance opened on this street perpendicular to the Madeleine street) built in 1565 and razed on the orders of Louis XIV in 1685 after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes. This portal was a secondary entrance on the southern facade of the temple. On the cartridge above the broken pediment an inscription, erased at the Revolution, proclaimed : « It's here the House of God, it's here the Gate of Heaven » .
