Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Mystery plant at Crowmarsh Farm. This plant looked quite invasive and was growing strongly along side the barn in 537237. It was about 8 feet tall and the flower panicles were nearly a foot long. This shows the maturing seed pods which turn a dark red when ripe. There are some late flowers at the bottom of the picture. It looks as if it's Pokeweed/Phytolacca americana. http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery?s=phytolacca+americana&gwp=13 It appears to be a garden escapee as it was introduced from America in 1768. There is some excellent information here http://www.pfaf.org/database/plants.php?Phytolacca+americana including medical uses and related research. (Thanks to Geograph members, Derek and Elaine, who helped in the identification of this plant)
