English: Mycena meliigena (Berk. & Cooke) Sacc. Basidia and spores. Collected and photographed in McClellan Ranch Preserve, Cupertino, Santa Clara Co, California, USA. on thicker branches of a standing dead oak tree (Quercus agrifolia). Growing in hundreds. Those of the typical vinaceous color were a minority, most of the others were perhaps just old and faded. But there were a few that looked fresh and almost white.
Basidia 4-spored, ~ 23+7 x 14. Spore 7.5-9.5 × 6.5-9.5, amyloid. Cheilocystidia forming a band, difficult to extricate, ~27×12, with excrescences up to 8.5 microns long. Caulocystidia as long as 72 microns. Recognized by sight |
