| Description |
This 1312 m long tunnel was built from 1999 to 2003. The associated road from the Solis Bridge to Mutten was opened in 2006. The tunnel has a lane width of 4 m and there are 8 turnouts. The construction started at the lower portal and the breakthrough at the upper portal was made in a special way. The tunnel builders worked from the inside with steel insertion through the loose rock up to the portal area. A few meters before reaching the surface, the miners provoked a cave-in which was then expanded and secured. This saved an expensive opening up of the upper portal construction site in the difficult-to-access area. Also a little secret in the tunnel is revealed. The hidden memorial of a site engineer, deceased in 2013. The series of 26 photos starts with this picture from the lower portal in the north at 1249 m ü.M./4098 ft ASL.
