Viertes Kapitel.
Einfache Vergleiche.
Wenn unser Schüler — d. h. der Benutzer unseres Buches — eine gewisse Fertigkeit besitzt, einfache Beschreibungen und Erzählungen zu fertigen, dann gehe er an die Ausarbeitung von Vergleichen.
Der Vergleich besteht in der Aufstellung von Ähnlichkeiten und Unterschieden zweier oder mehrerer Dinge.
Bei der Aufstellung geht man gewöhnlich von dem bekannteren Gegenstände aus.
Zu vergessen ist nicht, daß schon die alten Griechen und Römer erkannt haben, daß jeder Vergleich mehr oder weniger hinkt.
21. Vergleich der Uhr mit dem menschlichen Rörper.
I. Was sind Uhr «nd Mensch?
Beide sind bedeutende Kunstwerke. Das wird leider oft vergessen. Ein Kunstwerk muß sorgfältig behandelt werden. Die Uhr verdankt ihre Entstehung der Kunstfertigkeit des Menschen. Der Mensch ist das bedeutendste Kunstwerk der Natur.
II. Was zeigen «ns Uhr «nd Mensch?
Wie die Uhr die Sekunden, Minuten und Stunden des Sommertages anzeigt, wie sie die Verkündigerin der Tageszeiten ist, so belehrt uns der menschliche Körper über die verschiedenen Lebensalter. Der menschliche Körper stellt den Säugling dar, er läßt den spielenden Knaben, den blühenden Jüngling erkennen, zeigt uns den Mann auf der Mittagshöhe des Lebens, sinkt endlich dem Abende des Greisenalters entgegen; er wird, im Sarge liegend, von der mütterlichen Erde ausgenommen oder von den Flammen aus unserem Gesicht getilgt. Wir bemerken ihn nicht mehr, wie wir schlafend den Schlag der Uhr nicht mehr wahrnehmen.
III. Wie zeigen Uhr und Menschenleib ihr Leben?
Wie das Pendel, der Zylinder oder der Anker im hörbaren Ticktack den Gang der Uhr uns ins Ohr rufen, die einzelnen Rädchen vorwärtstreihen, das Ganze des Kunst-
