ntancesthan any other citizen of the town, during his many years resi-dence in Muskogee. He was always ready, to the extent of hisability, to help his neighbors who were sick or in distress. As stated elsewhere, Messrs. Andrew W. Robb, James A. Pat-terson, J. S. Atkinson, Joshua Ross, Major Foreman and J. E.Turner were the men who were present at the birth of Muskogeeand patiently nursed the toddling infant during the first few yearsof its life, but as it began to exhibit signs of growth and prosperity,they were soon joined by other enterprising men who had faithin the future of the town and country and were ready to contributeof their time, brains and money toward making the communitymore habitable. Of this class of men none is more deserving ofcommendation, none devoted more time and monev toward build-ing up Muskogee, than Clarence W. Turner, who still resides inMuskogee. He located in Muskogee in the Fall of 1882 afterhaving worked for twelve years with his father, John E. Turner,

Byrne purchased an interest in thestore and the firm of Turner & Byrne soon became known as themost extensive hardware dealers in Indian Territory. Five years later Mr, Turner bought out his partners interest in the businessand continued it on a constantly increasing scale, until he retiredfrom business a few years ago. Clarence Turner had unwaveringfaith in the future of Muskogee, and whenever any worthy enter-prise of a public nature was planned, his advice and support wereeagerly sought and readily secured. He built the first electric andice plant in the city, and for many months he furnished MainStreet with lights at his own expense.
