Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Musk Mallow (Malva moschata) - flower Many insects were busy feeding on the flowers, some using an interesting technique to balance their bodies while eating: left frontleg and right hindleg are stretched out to full capacity in opposite directions, with the left hindleg presumably forming the third leg of this 'tripod', while the right front leg is holding on to a flower petal. A number of these insects (ID would be greatly appreciated!) were observed, all using their legs in exactly the same manner. Musk Mallow > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/929820 can be found growing in dry pastures and in hedgerows. It can grow up to 60cm high and has rose-coloured flowers, which are about three times the size of the flowers of the Common Mallow > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/929797. Its leaves emit a faint, musky odour, especially in warm weather or when drawn through the hand.
