Summary

[edit]
Description

Photograph. 4.5 x 6.6 cm.

Found in a book at work (The Royal Botanic Gardens Kew : An Illustrated Guide, Her Majesty's Stationery Office. Fourth edition 1961, Eighth impression 1969).

Each snapshot is priced 10c on reverse, which suggests they were purchased here in Australia and tucked in the guide book. The book came from a collection of gardening books that belonged to a former gardner at Kirribilli House.

This building with four lions at the entrance is the former Imperial Institute, South Kensington. It was demolished in 1957 to make way for the expansion of Imperial College. Of the Imperial Institute's original three copper-roofed Renaissance-style towers, only Queen's Tower remains. Of the lions, two are now at the base of Queen's Tower. The other two are at the Commonwealth Institute. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonwealth_Institute#The_Imperial...
