Description

Vagón abierto tipo XX - Tara/tare 22,5 t. - Carga máxima/maximum load 57,5 t. - 100 Km/h.

English: Open wagons are used in a wide range of traffic, such as scrap and wood. These wagons were widely used due to their versatility and the simplicity of their construction and operation,. Since the 1950s the number of open carriages has been decreasing, as they have been replaced by more specific wagons.

When the rail freight transport restructuring took place in 1976, Renfe commissioned open "Ealos" wagons that were used to transport wood, construction material, iron and scrap. Between 1976 and 1980, 1,000 open “Ealos” were manufactured for inland traffic and some of them were designed with a closure with in-built hooks and meshes. They were assigned numbers 285001 to 286000 (UIC 81715927000-5 to 999-8) by Renfe. Although painted in green, they were originally rust brown. Nowadays, they can still be seen along the north east coast of Spain, between Portbou and Sagunto.

A different anagram can be seen displayed .on some of these wagons which refers to those freight companies that used to commission its cargo transport to Renfe. Some of these wagons were also rented or sold for private transport.
