Description

Locomotora RENFE 281-004/ Estado 1004 - Año 1929 - 736 KW - 65 Km/h.

English: This is the electric locomotive that worked for the longest period of time in the Spanish Railways. The State ordered it when the line Ripoll-Puigcerda was electrified due to its difficult profile. To electrify the line they followed the experience of the MIDI French company that operated a similar line in the Pyrenees. As heirs of the French BB4000 model, they have a rheostatic brake to climb the 45-thousandth ramps existing on the line. They ran until 1982 towing all kind of trains and, from then on, goods trains and also as snow ploughs till 1987. Although they belonged to the Barcelona Vilanova depot -until its closure in 1981- and subsequently to Can Tunis, they used to be in the Ripoll reserve. They also ran between Ripoll and Sant Joan de les Abadesses and to Vic and, rarely, to Barcelona.
