Description
Español: Museo Arqueológico Provincial de Cádiz. El mosaico de Puente Melchor. (Puerto Real). De difícil cronología podría datarse entre finales del s. II y el primer cuarto del s. III. Fue descubierto en 2004 durante el desdoblamiento de la N-IV para unir Puerto Real y Tres caminos, cerca del Hospital Universitario de Puerto Real. Ese lugar estaba ocupado por una villa romana que debe su relevancia arqueológica a la presencia del más importante complejo alfarero descubierto en la Bahía de Cádiz. La disposición de T invertida y su calidad hace pensar que ocupó el suelo del Triclinium o comedor de una lujosa villa rústica. Mide 5,44 x 6,78 m. Su emblema está dedicado al dios Baco al que acompañan su tradicional cortejo. Combina el "opus tessellatum" bicromo en su decoración geométrica con el "opus vermiculatum" polícromo usado en las figuras mitológicas. El dios Baco ocupa el emblema, está representado con cabello en forma de ramas de vid por su vinculación al vino y aparece rodeado de una gran roseta de triángulos curvilíneos que alberga el medallón. Lo acompañan de izquierda a derecha: Apolo, Pan, Ariadna y Sileno. También en "opus vermiculatum" policromo y con una disposición un poco extraña. Mientras que Sileno y Ariadna miran a Baco, Apolo y Pan están colocados de lado al dios. Los motivos geométricos van desde la orla decorada con un meandro de esvásticas, composición muy frecuente en la Bética, a unos no tan comunes haces de rayos, pasando por estrellas de losanges o nudos de salomón típicos de oriente, todos en "opus tessellatum" monocromos. Como elementos más aislados, destacar aves exóticas de carácter oriental o la pareja de crátelas decoradas con esvásticas.
