Notes La Chasse est attribuée au peintre florentin Giovanni di Francesco qui l’aurait peinte pour le palais ducal d’Urbin, l’une des principales cours de l’Italie au XVème siècle. Son format si particulier est dû à sa fonction de spalliera ou dossier d’un meuble. Le peintre a réuni deux scènes de chasse autour d’un pont, l’une noble, la chasse à courre avec un faucon, et l’autre populaire, pratiquée à pied et avec des chiens. La ville représentée est Florence, reconnaissable à ses principaux monuments et qui prenait à ce moment sa configuration quasiment définitive. Le style est davantage celui du Gothique international que celui de la Renaissance avec sa végétation luxuriante et son coucher de soleil spectaculaire. Déposée par le Louvre, l’œuvre a été récupérée en Allemagne à l’issue de la seconde guerre mondiale.
