DescriptionMury obronne, fosa i wieżyczka.jpg	Polski: Grudziądz, wieżyczka wodna przy Trynce, XIV brak zabytków w zespole W średniowieczu mury wznoszono dla zabezpieczenia mieszkańców przed niespodziewanymi atakami wrogich zbrojnych grup.Dla wzmocnienia obrony wznoszono podwójny ciąg murów. Taka budowla była wzniesiona w Grudziądzu na odcinku od Bramy Toruńskiej do Bramy Łasińskiej. Zewnętrzna część murów była niższa od wewnętrznych obwarowań, co tworzyło łatwą do obrony przestrzeń. Było to tak zwane międzymurze. Zewnętrzne mury okalała jeszcze głęboka fosa, stanowiąca dodatkowe utrudnienie dla atakującego wroga. W murach wewnętrznych do dziś zachowała się wieżyczka wodociągowa, którą czerpano wodę z Kanału Trynka. Za Bramą Toruńską w kierunku Bramy Wodnej wzniesiono już pojedyńcze mury, ale możliwość ataku utrudniał tam wysoki brzeg Trynki.
