Description

Locality: Česká Kamenice, Děčín (Tetschen), Ústí Region, Bohemia (Böhmen; Boehmen), Czech Republic
original description: Specimen of "porcelainite" - a semivitrified chert- or jasper-like rock composed of cordierite, mullite and tridymite, admixture of corundum, and subordinate K-feldspar. The porcelain quality of this mineral is caused by contact with heated basalt or, in this case, a burning coal seam.
Porcelainite was used for tools in prehistory, and is sometimes cut/polished for jewelry.
