Summary
[edit]DescriptionMt Washington cog railway diesel locomotive.jpg |
English: This Mt. Washington cog railway diesel locomotive, the first of its type, uses a hydraulic pump and hydraulic motor to turn the cog wheel to climb the mountain. On descent the cog hydraulic motor becomes a pump, and the engine pump is reversed to pull the hydraulic fluid past an orifice in the line to allow the engine to pull the car down the mountain. The orifice is opened completely when going up the mountain. |
