Mr. Kittredge [sic] A. Wing, Supt. Gettysburg National Military Park U.S. Dept. of the Interior Gettysburg Penna. Dear Mr. Wing: Thank you very much for all your help and advice in the plans for the dedication. I feel that we accomplished a great deal last week. After leaving your office we went to the High School and had a very satisfactory meeting with Mr. Parsels. I called our office in Richmond and we seem to have worked out the flag problem. The flag staffs are one and one-eighth inch diameter and all will the same height. We are ordering new flags for the states and new staffs so will have fourteen all the same. The flags now hanging in our Great Hall can be taken down and brought to Gettysburg. These are a uniform size as near as it is possible to have them. We will get two Confederate National flags and two Battle Flags and if you can provide the two large American Flags we will not bring these with us. It seems better to have the flags in place on the stand and also at the Inn rather than try to move them from one place to the other. I called Mr. Lee’s office but he is out of town. I did leave a message with his secretary and will get in touch with him when he returns. Again, Judge Beard and I are most appreciative for all your help. Sincerely, Maynelle S. Smith Mrs. Robert Hamilton Smith Chairman of Arrangements Gettysburg Monument UDC
