Mr. Kitteridge [sic] Wing Superintendent Gettysburg National Military Park Gettysburg Penna. Dear Mr. Wing: Again we have set a date for the dedication of the monument at the Park. August 25 seems to be the definite date and the sculptor assures us this will give ample time to get the monument in place. I talked to Mr. Ross today and the Inn can take care of us on that date. Senator Sam J. Ervin will be our speaker and we hope that many if not all of the Governors will be present. The Gettysburg High School Band will be available on the 25 and a letter has been sent to Mr. Parcels. Judge Beard and I will probably come to Gettysburg a bit later to work out final plans. Am I correct in assuming that a speaker’s platform and a large number of chairs can be arranged for? I am not familiar with the mechanics of such a program but was at Appomattox on the 9th of April and quite a large platform was set us. Also an ample number of chairs were available. Many of our members are not too young and ample seating space will be needed. Will you please let me know if these details are taken care of by Park officials and if so, the cost of this would be our responsibility, would it not? It is possible Senator Ervin may speak during the luncheon and then we will go by bus to the Park for the dedication.
