To: Coordinating Council of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and Sons of the Confederacy and members of the Committee for Promotion of Monument to Army and Navy of Confederate States of America To Be Erected at Gettysburg National Military Park As the time draws near for the Board meeting, I am getting together all the information I have concerning the monument to the Army and Navy of the Confederate States of America to be placed at Gettysburg. As previously reported, Georgia, Virginia, Maryland, Mississippi, and Louisiana have raised their quote amounting to $13,000. I am sorry that I cannot attend the meeting, but I am sending Mrs. Max S. Flynt to represent me. I have written the Governors, Centennial Commissions, and the committeewomen of the other states which convene their legislative sessions this year. I have very fine reports from Miss Rebecca Holt of Alabama that Alabama meets in May, and all things point to Alabama’s having her quota not later than July. Two of the states meet in April. Mrs. Cameron of Texas has all plans for Texas’s meeting its quota. Mrs. Campbell of Kentucky and Mrs. Thomas of Missouri are very hopeful that they will secure their quotas when their legislatures convene. Mrs. Proctor of North Carolina and Mrs. Ray Scarborough of Tennessee are working hard to secure the quotes of those two states. Mrs. Burkett of Arkansas, Mrs. Haggard of Florida, and Mrs. White of South Carolina are doing all they can to secure the quotas of their three states. I have sent several copies of the Resolution passed by Georgia to several of my Committee who requested them. I have consulted two fine architects in Atlanta (one is Chairman of the Fine Arts Commission of Georgia) about the 14-column design that I have
