An excellent opportunity presented itself. Prince Lich-nowsky, the husband of a staunch pupil of the composers,was an officer of high rank in the Prussian army and thepossessor of large estates in Silesia. He was obliged byhis i)pilitary duties as well as by business interests to takeup his abode annually for a certain length of time inBerlin.
