Description |
English: Lulu Fairbanks was an active member of the Mountaineers and kept a scrapbook of their activities. This photo is part of her chapter on the dedication of the lodge near Rockdale in the Snoqualmie Pass region. On June 21, 1914, a group of Mountaineers took the train from Seattle and climbed up to their new lodge, which was still under construction. Each member of the party carried a board or a brick up the steep hillside. They held a dedication, Professor Meany reading a poem he wrote for the occasion. This photo shows the rear of the lodge with its framework of logs and stone chimney. Scrapbook also contains newspaper clipping, “Lodge Dedicated by Mountaineers,” June 22, 1914.
