| Description |
This active volcano in Italy is less than 10 Km (6 miles) from the city of Naples, where I took the picture from. Famously it erupted in AD 79 and engulfed the Roman cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum and others, killing at least 1000 people. The volcano is still active and the last big eruption was on 17 March 1944 when villages were again destroyed.
