| Description |
English: Mount Batten Breakwater Looking inland along the refurbished breakwater. Archaeological exploration has found evidence that this area was occupied in the Bronze Age, confirmation of its' excellent position. The defensive tower on top of the hill can be see; it was built in the 1660s after the English Civil War when Plymouth was held by the Parliamentarians. The white building at the landward end of the breakwater was a pub before the military occupied the area in 1917, and is now a bistro. New exclusive housing built after the RAF base closed can be seen on each side of the hill. |
