Where shall I meet thee,Thou beautiful one? 141 KNIGHT MONUMENT. This monument is a somewhat curious pointed design, surmounted bya cross. It was erected to the memory of a wife, as shown by the in-scription given below. It is exquisitely executed in granite, so finelywrought as to rival the workmanship of the marble slab in front. Thefront panel bears the following inscription: — « KNIGHT. A TRIBUTE OF AFFECTION, SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF ELIZABETHS. KXIGHT. 1852. Upon a marble tablet in front, is a device of two joined hands, witha cross over them, bearing the inscription, One Lord, one Faith, oneBaptism. Everything about this monument, — the fence, the steps infront, — bears evidence of a seriousness of purpose which cannot butimpress the beholder that it is a most sincere tribute of aflectiou. >^ ^A: fij .^ i^;- ^Vrf^-,

The care and tendance usually bestowed on this mor-tal part, when laid to rest and to wait in hope, is a sub-ject which more or less occupies the attention of allthoughtful people. After reading of the barbaroususages of savage nations, or the elaborate rites of culti-vated ones, of the vagaries of fanaticism, or the sti-angefancies into which poor untaught human nature has beenbeguiled, — we turn with thankful reverence to the se-rene, simple, and hopeful observances which Christianityteaches, when man goeth to his long home, and themourners go about the streets. Volume upon volume w^ould hardly suffice to exem-plify fully such usages, but these few notices, culled inno irreverent spirit, and with no careless hand, frommemorials which have met my view, may, I venture tohope, be found acceptable and interesting.
