[edit]DescriptionMount-Pleasant Vancouver 1898.jpg | Mount Pleasant, 1898, From upper part of Fire Hall which stood on north side of Ninth Avenue about 200 feet east of Quebec street. The tide is low, and the False Creek mud flats are visible. In the far distant centre is the North Vancouver Indian [First Nations] Reserve; on the far distant right, the Moodyville Sawmill. The black smoke is from the Vancouver Gas Works or B.C. Electric Power house. The first steeple is the First Presbyterian Church, Gore and Hastings; the second steeple Princess Street (old one) Methodist church; then comes Strathcona School. Woodward's Store, white with six windows, and the famous Bridge Hotel are on Westminster Ave; the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, on the left edge is on Seventh Ave; Quebec St. behind church. In foreground is Eight Ave. On right;-junction of Westminster Ave, Westminster Road, and Seventh Avenue. Single street car track terminates at 9th Ave. |
