Title
Mount: A cast lead-alloy mound depicting an erotic scene
Description
English: An incomplete modern cast lead-alloy mount. Probably post-Second World war. The mount depicts an erotic scene of a man engaging in intercourse with a woman viewed from behind. One of the womens legs is completely missing and the foot of her other leg is also missing. The reverse is plain. A similar object is seen on the database: NARC-2DB601 . The great similarities between the two objects suggests that this object could also be missing an upwardly curved arch, connecting under the woman's feet, with FIREWATCHER embossed across it. Firewatchers were volunteers working during the blitz entrusted to control fires caused by bombing. Kevin Leahy says: "During World War II firewatchers were suspected of spending their long nights doing things other than looking out for incendiary bombs. No-one could admit to being a firewarden without some wit casting aspersions as to what they did at night".

The function of the object is unclear although it is similar in style and weight to horsebrasses. The term 'Firewatcher' dates to the WWII period but despite the aspersions cast upon the volunteers, it may have been considered too blasphemous or rude to openly produce objects of this graphic nature during the war period.
