Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Mound on Cameron Muir. There are several lower greenish mounds scattered around on the moor (see 1716835 for an example), but the one shown here is almost two metres tall. The mound is mostly covered in bracken, but, on the upper half of the southern side (the side that is shown here), the soil was exposed in a couple of places, revealing many closely-packed stones; those exposed areas can be seen in the photo. Another exposed section on the lower western side (not shown here) consisted mainly of soil.

The mound stands near the remains of a field system (see http://www.stirling.gov.uk/searchsmr?id=1711.02 for details at the Stirlingshire SMR). It contains a mixture of soil and fairly small stones. Perhaps it is a clearance cairn (meaning that it was made when clearing the surrounding land of stones).

The snowcapped peak situated centrally on the skyline is Ben Lomond (NN3602), while the ridge-like hill visible at the right-hand edge of the photo is Gualann (NS4594).
