if the Govner werentabout Id kiss ye for that. I simply mentionthis incident to show that little acts of kindnessand little deeds well done often produce aston-ishing results. The proprietor of the Lion Inn told us that hehad served his time in the Royal Navy and hadnow retired to the country to spend his days inpeace. When we had gone a few miles farther, a goodSamaritan, whom we passed on the road, told usto be very careful not only in approaching Stiltonbut in passing through the town itself and not toundertake to make any speed whatever until wehad passed the Norman Cross Inn about twomiles north of Stilton. Stilton has for manyyears been famous for its cheeses, and has nowin these later days become famous for the enter-prise of its constables in holding up motorists. The run from Buckden to Retford, a hundredand forty-seven miles from London, gave us acontinuous succession of delightful panoramicviews. We were in the heart of old Englandwhere apparently every one was thrifty and pros-perous, and we frequently commented on thegreat number of bicyclists we passed. Bicyclingis not only still a fad but the bicycle is used
