Português: Mostrador do relógio da torre da sé do Funchal. Reforma de 1775 (c.) Com este mostrador funcionou um relógio mandado executar pela administração do governador João António de Sá Pereira, conforme se encontra gravado no mostrador de latão amarelo: Este relógio foi mandado fazer por administração do Illmo. e Exmo. Senhor Governador e General, João António de Sá Pereira. Ano 1775. Paulo de França fecit. Lisboa. Nº 29. Parece assim querer dizer-se, que este relojoeiro de Lisboa, teria já feito 28 relógios. Este relógio da Sé terá sido montado pouco depois, funcionando então cerca de 248 anos. Em 1922, o Dr. Miguel Grabham, médico inglês aqui radicado, resolveu oferecer um novo relógio à Sé, feito em Inglaterra, na casa Gillete & Johnston, de Croydon. Conforme contam o Diário de Notícias dessa época, o velho relógio português foi apeado e o inglês, benzido a 22 de Fevereiro e colocado a 30 de Junho desse ano de 1922. Deu-se então relevo a que o velho teria tido alguns problemas nos últimos anos e este, até porque vindo de Londres, o que para a Ilha era sempre um atrativo importante, iria melhorar substancialmente a vida pública citadina. A velha máquina do século XVIII repousa no Museu Municipal, podendo hoje ser considerada um monumento à relojoaria portuguesa. |
