Català: El Park Güell es va formar per la unió de dues finques, Can Muntaner de Dalt i Can Coll i Pujol, en la anomenada Muntanya Pelada (avui dia Turó del Carmel), adquirides pel comte Güell l’any 1899. Es tractava d'un terreny format per estrats de pissarra i pedra calcària.
Gaudí ho va concebre amb un sentit religiós alhora que orgànic i urbanístic, ja que va aprofitar el desnivell de 60 metres que té la muntanya (l'altura oscil·la entre 150 i 210 metres respecte el mar) per projectar un camí d'elevació espiritual, va situar al seu cim una capella, que finalment no es va construir, al lloc que actualment ocupa el monument al Calvari (o Turó de les Tres Creus). |
