Summary

[edit]
Description
English: AA and RAC London – Brighton Veteran Car Run 2009.

“Saturday 31 October - REGENT STREET - 11am to 3pm The International Concours for LBVCR Cars is held in London's prestigious Regent Street which will close for the day in order to stage the Concours for over 100 fine examples from the Sunday Run. Apart from the static display a number of the pre-1905 motor vehicles will provide demonstration runs along Conduit Street and around Berkeley Square.”

The early days of motoring must have been quite an adventure, with some roads of poor quality, and vehicles which were much less reliable than those of today. The patrols of the Automobile Association (AA) and the Royal Automobile Club (RAC), and their distinctive telephone boxes, must have been invaluable in the event of a breakdown. The photographer, on the left, is clearly a supporter of the AA; whilst on the right, car number 126, a Mors dating from 1901, is owned by the RAC. The cars may have been slow, unreliable and uncomfortable, in those far off days, but the quality of workmanship was excellent.
