The Comenian Literary Society organ-ized in 1874 and conducted by the students, affordsexcellent opportunities for improvement in declama-tion and debate, as well as familiarity with parliamen-tary forms. The Comenian, a monthly periodical issued by thestudents, serves as a medium of communication be-tween the College and its alumni and helps to pro-mote the interests of the Institution. Excellence in Oratory is encouraged by the annualholding of the John Beck Oratorical Contest, prizeshaving been provided through the liberality of theHon. James M. Beck, of New York. A similar provision has been made for an annualcontest in German essays and orations by friends inN. Dakota. An annual prize of $15.00, known as the Borhekprize, is offered for the best work done by a studentduring the year in the various departments of Biblestudy. The John David Bishop Memorial Fund providesa prize of $50.00 for the student in the TheologicalClass who has made the best record during the year

Vocal and Instrumental Music is practiced underthe leadership of one of the professors or students. AGlee Club and a College Orchestra have been in ex-istence for a number of years. Upon special applica-tion, lessons are given in Instrumental Music, and inThorough Bass, a small fee being charged. Provisionis made for every student who desires to learn or im-prove in Instrumental Music to practice statedly onPiano and Organ, and those who are sufficiently ad-vanced take turns in playing the pipe organ
