Summary
[edit]DescriptionMoorland telephone box (threatened), Ceredigion - geograph.org.uk - 905572.jpg |
English: Moorland telephone box (threatened), Ceredigion The famous scenic road from Tregaron to Abergwesyn crosses the Afon Camddwr here at a very remote spot, where there has for many years been a telephone box, vital as the only public facility to use in emergencies (walking, cycling or motoring). Today it was not working. A notice said that the service was to be discontinued "because of low usage" after a forty something days consultation period starting from (no date given). Whether mobile phones work here I know not, but of course the box has low usage. It surely wasn't put there originally for the convenience of the throngs of local people living around! (One farm at present, with its own line). It does not accept coins or cards anyway, so surely emergency numbers could remain available as a bare minimum.
