Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Igneous dikes are planar to irregularly-planar intrusions that cut across country rocks. They can be thin or extremely thick; they can be vertically- or obliquely-oriented. In this sample, both the dark-colored monzonite and the light-colored syenite are dikes. The syenite has cut through the monzonite. The monzonite has cut through shonkinites (not seen here) of the Beaver Creek Stock, an Early Eocene intrusion dating to 50 to 54 million years. Locality: small quarry adjacent to Beaver Creek Road (= Route 234), 1.4 miles south of the boundary of Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation & 8.1 miles south of the Beaver Creek Road-Sucker Creek Road intersection, Bearpaw Mountains, southeastern Hill County, northern Montana, USA
