English: Monument to Cristopher Columbus (1451?–1506) at the Plaza de Colón ("Columbus Square") in Madrid (Spain). Designed by Arturo Mélida (1849–1902) and built from 1881 to 1885. Square base with reliefs and octagonal pillar were sculpted in stone by Mélida. Columbus statue (three metres high) was sculpted in Italian white marble by Jerónimo Suñol (1839–1902).
Español: Monumento a Cristóbal Colón (¿1451?–1506) en la Plaza de Colón de Madrid (España). Diseñado por Arturo Mélida (1849–1902) y erigido de 1881 a 1885. La base cuadrada con relieves y el pilar octogonal fueron tallados en piedra por Mélida. La estatua de Colón, de tres metros de altura, fue esculpida en mármol blanco de Italia por Jerónimo Suñol (1839–1902). |
