Description
English: Detail of the monument to Christopher Colombus (1451?–1506) at the Plaza de Colón ("Columbus Square") in Madrid (Spain), built between 1881 and 1885. It's the northern side of the square base, sculpted in stone in a Neo-gothic style by Arturo Mélida (1849–1902). Relief is an allegory of the Discovery. It represents a caravel with a globe. At the four corners of the base there are heralds below canopies.
Español: Detalle del monumento a Cristóbal Colón (¿1451?–1506) de la Plaza de Colón de Madrid (España), erigido entre 1881 y 1885. Es la cara norte de la base cuadrada, esculpida en piedra en estilo neo-gótico por Arturo Mélida (1849–1902). El relieve es una alegoría del Descubrimiento. Representa una carabela con el globo terráqueo. En las cuatro esquinas de la base hay heraldos bajo doseles.
