Summary

[edit]
Description
Nederlands: Een tablet met informatie over het monument
English: Dutch language information on the monument.
The original monument of the victims of World War I was created by Pieter Braecke. Architect Creten was responsible for the architectural aspect. In 1968 the monument was thoroughly renovated and restored, according to plans by the city architect Jan Lewyllie. The original statue of a soldier was moved to the city museum and replaced by a bust of King Albert I and Queen Elisabeth, made by August Michiels.
