English: Official opening and dedications of monument to Taras Shevchenko in Canberra "Shevchenko's Thoughts" in 2013. Sculptor: Anatoliy Valiev, Ukraine. This monument had a long and sad history. It was brought to Australia in early 2000 as a gift from the Kyiv City Administration and was planned to be erected in Sydney. However, due to indecision by the Ukrainian community leaders at that time, no action was taken until 2005, when it was finally erected in 2005 in Canberra. The plinth was finished in 2007 and it was only officially opened in 2013. |
