Description
Français : Monument à Jacquard, Place Jacquard, Saint-Étienne. Réalisé par Paul Landowski et installé en 1912. Face ouest. Les bas-reliefs représentent, de gauche à droite, le lisage, la construction du modèle de métier par Jacquard, et la passementerie. L'inscription indique : "Jacquard naquit à Lyon en 1752. Il passa la moitié de sa vie dans la plus grande pauvreté. Il prit part aux guerres de la Révolution. Son fils fut tué à ses côtés. À son retour en France, il perdit sa femme morte de privations. En 1801, il exposa le premier modèle de sa machine. Mandé à Paris par Carnot, la vue du métier de Vaucanson le mit sur la voie définitive. Il reçut la croix de la légion d'honneur en 1819. Il mourut pauvre en 1834."

The bas-reliefs represent, from left to right, the reading, the construction of the loom model by Jacquard, and the trimmings. The inscription indicates: "Jacquard was born in Lyon in 1752. He spent half of his life in the greatest poverty, took part in the wars of the Revolution, and his son was killed by his side. In 1801, he exhibited the first model of his machine.Measured in Paris by Carnot, the sight of the craft of Vaucanson put him on the final road.He received the cross of the Legion of Honor in 1819 He died poor in 1834. "
