Description

Sinds kort zijn we in Ypenburg een monument rijker. Nou ja, rijker, zo mooi is het naar mijn mening niet. Maar het staat wel op zijn plek want herinnert aan de gevechten van de grenadiers en jagers om de vliegvelden Ypenburg en Ockenburgh. Zie hier een stukje daarover. "Bij de slag om Den Haag sneuvelden bijna honderd grenadiers en jagers. Het lukte de grenadiers en jagers echter om de vliegvelden te heroveren op de Duitse parachutisten en luchtlandingstroepen. Zo werd het plan van de Duitsers verijdeld om koningin Wilhelmina en de Nederlandse regering gevangen te nemen en konden zij naar Engeland uitwijken." En staat hier ook beter dan zijn voormalige plek aan de Johan de Wittlaan, waar het toch een beetje weggestopt stond. Gemaakt door Dirk Bus in 1954.
