« Le style de cette aquarelle rappelle celui d'une oeuvre attribuée à Philip Bainbrigge. Le paysage rural a été représenté en détail alors que seuls les éléments essentiels du village sont soulignés. La perspective aérienne a permis à l'artiste de dépeindre un paysage de plus en plus flou à mesure qu'il se fond dans l'arrière-plan et s'élève vers la haute ligne d'horizon propre à toutes les aquarelles de Bainbrigge. Le rendu ombragé de l'église Notre-Dame, à peine visible au loin, à l'extrême gauche de la ligne d'horizon, est étudié de manière à ne pas détourner l'attention des tanneries et de leur relation avec la ville. »
