Document BANQ / Montreal Map: Paul-Jourdin dit Labrosse XVIIIè siècle avec additions de E. Z. Massicotte (1867-1947). Le détail de cette carte nous révèle d'intéressants points de repère historiques; en 1761, le faubourg Québec, un des premiers débordements urbains à l'Est de l'ancienne ville fortifiée, semble déjà bien implanté si on en juge par le tracé des rues axées Nord-Sud. Au Nord des Fortifications on mentionne un grand marécage et un alignement de petits bâtiments de ferme, probablement à l'origine du secteur de la rue Saint-Louis. Pour sortir de la Cité, trois portes sont aménagées ici: les portes Bon Secours et des Casernes côté fleuve et la porte Saint-Martin ou du chemin de Québec vers l'Est. À l'intérieur de la ville fortifiée on voit l'emplacement exact de la butte de la Citadelle, démantelée vers 1820 pour le prolongement Est de la rue Notre-Dame. On mentionne "ruines de la chapelle de Bonsecours" ainsi que le bâtiment et domaine de l'Intendant, M. de Longueuil qui laissera sa place à sir John Johnson là où plus tard on construira l'imposant édifice du Marché Bonsecours. |
