Description
English: Cpl. (ret) Deloyce McMurray, seated center, speaks with Maj Gregory P. Gordon and SgtMaj Christopher G. Combs during a Montford Point Marine ceremony in which he was presented the Congressional Gold Medal July 2 at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library. McMurray enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1944 and was one of the few African Americans sent to the segregated Montford Point, North Carolina for basic training. McMurray was deployed to the Pacific during World War II seeing action during the battle of Iwo Jima. Gordon is the Commanding Officer of Recruiting Station St. Louis, Combs is the Sergeant Major of RS St. Louis. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Erik S. Brooks Jr./ Released)
