Description
English: Montanhas Simien na Etiópia. Formadas no Oligoceno em um grande derrame de lava basáltica, mais de 3 km de espessura, a maior parte das montanhas consiste de restos erodidos de um vulcão em escudo do tipo Havaiano. Pela altitude é um dos poucos locais na África onde a neve cai regularmente. Em verde claro, nas áreas acima de 3700m, estepe afro alpina. Abaixo até 3000m, floresta de montanha de Ericaceous e até 2000m, floresta de montanha africana, em verde escuro. Areas agrícolas, com grande ocupação humana nas chapadas, em salpicado alaranjado / Ethiopia´s Semien Mountains. Formed during the Oligocene from huge lava outporing, more than 10,000 ft thick, most of the mountains are eroded remnants of a Hawaiian tupe shield volcano. Due to its height it´s one of the few spots in Africa were snow falls regularly. Afro-alpine steppes appear in light green, in areas above 3700m. Belo, down to 3000m, Ericaceous montane forest and down to 2000m, in dark green, African montane forest, in dark. Agriculture, with large human occupation, appears in orangeish saltpper at plateaus.
