English: Montacute House West Front detail (4) The only major alteration to Montacute House was in the 1780s when a later Edward Phelips built a new facade onto the centre of the west front. The ornamental carving over the doorway seen here is of this period, and came from another C16 house, Clifton Maybank near Yeovil, and celebrated the marriage of a Phelips ancestor. |
