The Tale of Kaptai Lake

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: There is a saying in local, "Bengali in fish and rice". So, the significance is fish and rice are the staple food of the Bengali people. As a riverine country, most of the fish comes from rivers, other sources are sea and man-made lakes.

In this minimal picture, you can see fishermen fishing from their boat around the breathtaking hillside area in Kaptai Lake. Different types of fish can be found in this artificial lake, delivered to local markets and across the country to meet the food chain requirements. Kaptai Lake, the largest man-made lake in Bangladesh; located in the Kaptai Upazila under the Rangamati District of Chittagong Division was created in 1960.

The reservoir was established due to damming the river Karnafuli close to Kaptai town in the Chittagong hill tracts as a feature of a hydroelectric power generation project. Kaptai Lake's average depth is 100 feet and its maximum depth is 490 feet. However, made primarily for hydroelectric power generation, it contributes to producing a significant quantity of freshwater fishes, navigation, flood control, agribusiness, and so on. The lake, dotted with islands (where locals make up their houses for living), is unquestionably beautiful and a boat trip across the lake is a phenomenal method for going through a day over here.
