Description

Money rocking and rolling , by Erik Pevernagie, oil on canvas

When money turns into religion, when people become possessed and pursued by its persistent excitement, when its fatal attraction turns out to be irresistible, the rocking and rolling of money will keep on overruling the people.

Money has the power to make people blind and brainless. Some don’t even watch art with their eyes nor with their mind, but with their ears, ever since they judge art by the sound of money.

In the religion of money, greed shows no mercy, as people become submerged by the irresistible supremacy of money, swaying it to and fro, from one financial challenge to another. While playing their obsessing speculations, they ignore the cracks in the stature of financial systems and forget to anticipate the worst scenarios. Love is blind, and so is the love of money blind.

In the meantime, they pass by the core of life and lose the essence of their existence, becoming alienated from themselves and ignoring that the entanglements of a system manipulate them. They become exiles, banished from what is essential in life. They lose their identity.

Money doesn't make unhappy unless happiness is thrust way beyond the realms of possibility due to a desperate obsession or a frantic addiction.

Let us keep enough money to enjoy each breath we take, but certainly not too much, if we don’t want to spoil the fragrance of our dreams and the poetic enchantment of life.

Phenomenon: Money, speculation, alienation
