The traditional Christmas ritual of caroling among the Pontic Greeks, dedicated to the ancient Greek God of ridicule and criticism, Momos. Pontic Greeks in traditional costumes, armed with multi-colored canes with ribbons, are called Momogeri. On Christmas Eve they walk through the streets of Kallithea, a city within the Athens metropolitan area where a large diaspora of Pontian Greeks has lived for a long time. During their carols, they sing about topical issues and “drive away” everything bad that happened in the past year.
