Summary
[edit]DescriptionMoments of Pride (15186437291).jpg | GEORGIA DOME, Atlanta, September 7, 2014 – Cadets of the Ft. Stewart Georgia National Guard’s Youth Challenge Academy take to the field during the opening of the first Atlanta Falcons football game at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta unfurling the massive football field flag as part of a patriotic opening ceremony. The 100 young men and women were selected as participants using a criteria gauging academic excellence, character and leadership improvement. Andrea Johnson, a cadet from Atlanta, has been enrolled a short time but realizes the positive effects of the military school driven program. “I’m changing for the better because I know a lot of things my attitude and approach to others, needed to be adjusted,” the 17-year old pointed out. “I am far more respectful of others an myself.” The YCA is an intervention program designed to encourage 16-18 year olds at-risk of dropping out of school to reclaim their lives focusing on self-discipline, education and life-coping skills. The ‘Dirty Birds’ beat the New Orleans Saints in overtime, 37-34. (Georgia National Guard photo by Army Staff Sgt. Tracy J. Smith | released) |
